Discussing What Military Service Means Before You get Married

I was just watching one of thegoldenrulesoflife.com/military interviews and the couple said something I thought made a huge amount of sense. Maybe it is obvious to many folks but they talked about how before they got married, they discussed what the husband being in the military and possibly serving in combat would mean to the two of them and how they would handle it. And so, with him likely going to Iraq in the coming months, it isn't an issue that they are just not dealing with under the additional pressure of his deployment. They have already talked about where the wife would find support, how they would communicate, how they each felt about the fear they both have of the possibility of his being injured or killed. That's not to say that they don't have anxiety and stress over his impending deployment, but from listening to them it seems clear that if a husband or wife (or both) could possibly see combat, it is never too early to talk about how you would deal with it as a couple.
